Within the Centre, three research projects have been identified and will continue to be developed over the next couple of years. These projects will completed as funding and time permit. The Principal researcher on both projects is Gord Kerr, Executive Director of the Ontario School Council Support Centre. 1. The Stages of Development of a School Council. A framework developed in 2000 to define five distinct stages of development for School Councils in Ontario. A framework was developed in 2000 to define the eight types of parental and community involvement relevant for Ontario. 3. Redefining 'Parent Involvement'This work is new for 2002, breaking parents into three distinct groups, those who just want to be parents, those willing to become volunteers and those interested in becoming school council members. As they have different interests, they also have different information needs - and possibly different training and development needs. 4. Stimulating Parent Involvement to Stimulate Student Success Presented in November 2005 at The Quest for Communities that Work, this is a condensed version of a Master's Research Paper proving the ability of school councils to have an impact on stimulating parent involvement. |
